SilverCoinCommerce™ (SCC) is an online forum where readers can find articles, resources, and conversations about real money (silver coins, etc.), and its use in day-to-day commerce.

Here’s an everyday scenario, we would like to see happen:

Bob: Hmm… I need a new alternator installed for my pickup, –calls Joe, the auto-repairman-  “ring ring”

“Joe’s auto repair!”

“Hi Joe, this is Bob, looks like my alternator finally went kaput!, do you have a slot to fix it tomorrow?”

“Let me check, yup, I’ve got an open slot in the afternoon.”

“And how much will that be?”

“Looks like the alternator will be about $220. US dollars plus tax, and the labor will be about $8.75 face value in 90% US silver coinage.”

“Sounds great, I’ll be by to pick it up and pay you tomorrow afternoon!”

–the next day..

“Thanks for doing such a great job on my truck Joe, she purrs like a kitten! Here is your payment in silver coins for the labor, and US dollars for the alternator, pleasure doing business with you!”

-On the way home from work, Joe then stops at a local produce stand and buys a pound of potatoes and a bag of carrots for about…  twenty cents (silver), from Mary’s fruit stand.

-On her way home from her fruit stand–Mary then stops to pick up a bar of natural hand-made soap from her friend for about ten cents (silver).

Could be pretty fun!

The above illustrates a pretty simple way to start incorporating silver into everyday transactions. Obviously, the price of silver fluctuates somewhat, and there does need to be some flexibility with regards to how best to appoint value, but with the amount of junk silver (90% US minted silver coinage) available, we think this might be a pretty easy way to incorporate –real money- into our daily transactions.

So, that’s what we’re doing. Starting, and encouraging these types of conversations and scenarios, and we hope you will help us spread the word regarding these topics. They are interesting to say the least. Our current dollar value (US) is somewhat suspect, however, we believe that throwing the “baby out with the bathwater” would be completely irresponsible, and reckless.

We feel that the best approach might be a gentle shift. Local services and products are a perfect fit with which to conduct silver coin commerce. If you haven’t done this yet, let us tell you. It is a satisfying experience. Silver coins like friends! So, they are a bit harder to let go of—this encourages saving. And they are more satisfying to receive—this opens up more opportunities to broaden a silver coin commerce network!

There are no fees here, no memberships, no specially minted coins for sale. Our only membership requirement is one of common cents and courtesy.  We’ll expand later on how best to build a network and start conducting silver coin commerce. For now, we hope you join the conversation.

You will notice that we sprinkle a few ads throughout the site. We do this for a couple reasons. The first, is that this is a –real money- website. Our focus is on delivering value and relevance and quality articles. It does take quite a bit of effort to deliver value, and our reward is hopefully, a bit of revenue from the ads and our participation with ProBlogPartner.com network (ask us). Hopefully, maybe we can make a few bucks to expand the website, and offer other things with the same attention to quality you will come to expect from us.
